I left Twin Falls, Idaho Wednesday morning and headed for Bend, Oregon. I have a friend to see in Bend, a graduate of the school from the 90’s. David and his wife Linda had always made the effort to come back to New Mexico to see me. Linda passed away last year, so I wanted to make sure I went through Bend to see David. We have been having a sweet time talking about old time, the massage school, Linda and their life together.
Before I left Twin Falls, I went over to the big attraction in the area, the Shoshone Falls on the Snake River. Other than the Evil Knievel site, the falls are one reason to visit this area. I noticed large basalt like boulders and formations, similar to what we have in the Taos area. I wasn’t sure though, so I asked the attendant at the little booth who leaning back in her chair reading a book. After she took my $5 entrance fee, I asked if the rocks were volcanic in nature. She looked a little flustered, shrugged and said, “I don’t know!” However, Google tells me that yes indeed, those are 6 million year old rhyolite and trachyte lava flows along with basalt. My geology lesson of the day before heading to the volcanic mountains of Oregon.
