#2 Moab, Utah

July 7, 2025

There were plenty of photos to take along the way from Taos to Moab. If I had stopped at every one of them I might not have made it here before dark! Dolores, Colorado was a big surprise to me, because my Apple Maps took me a different way than I had been before, fortunately. The view from that high Mesa near Dolores looks out over valleys of irrigated farmland; rich, red earthen fields yet to be planted. Green and brown hay fields spreading for acres and acres. A huge patchwork of land and crops overlooking vast canyon lands, massive cliffs, and mountains in the background. It was beautiful. Then suddenly going downhill, the open expanse of the red rock canyon worlds opened up. And here I am, nestled in a little campground of trees and families right in the middle of Moab. It is probably not high season because of the heat – it was 98 when I drove in at 5:30., though I heard that Arches National Park has an hour or two wait to get in. As we say in Taos, it’s a dry heat, so it isn’t so bad. My little A/C and fan work fine for now.

So this is Wilson Arch, a feature just off of the highway coming into Moab. My scientist brain loves to learn about geology, so I am including it here for you… It was a good first day out.
